H2O join eXp in preparation for summer camp excitement

At the recent Ardroy training weekend, a small group of DeKanWizzers from Oban joined a larger group of eXp'ers from Dunoon for time together in preparation in advance of this coming summer's eXp 14 camp at the Ben More Centre.
The weekend was spent considering aspects of leadership, digging in to managing challenging behaviour and taking part in outdoor team-building activities.
Many thanks to organiser Paul Beautyman and guest presenters Chris White and Simon Richardson for al their input and support over the weekend.
Roll on the summer!

Lots of Zooooming! around....

It's been a busy few days for our H2O young photographers of Zoooom!
Saturday - a trip north-east to Kingussie and the Highland Wildlife Park. Thirteen of us entered the world of Polar Bears, Tigers, Red Pandas, Scottish Wildcats and ........ well the list goes on.
Overall, a good day for some wild subjects (taken by some wild photographers!)
The wild adventure was closely followed by a slightly wild Monday evening annual competition against Oban Camera Club, with much cake, tea and a bevvy of photographic imagery.
Judging team, Val and George Hamilton, provided a splendid overview of their thinking behind the scores, with all in the packed hall benefiting from their vast combined creative experience. And, my goodness, was it close. Having counted and re-counted the scores, Zoooom! - 362 points OCC - 366 points!!!! - 4 points of a difference!
Well, second again for Zoooom!, but only just.
Congratulations to Catherine for 'Best image from H2O', well done OCC and BIG thank you to our judges Val and George Hamilton.

STOP PRESS - Zoooom! have recently been awarded a Creative Enterprise Fund grant in conjunction with Young Scot. The money will be used towards trips such as the Highland Wildlife Park visit and several excursions to Inner Hebridean Islands. Big thanks to Dionne, Liam and Ryan for all their efforts working with Catriona to secure this funding.

So Near and Yet So Far!

Hope 2 Oban Youth Worker Ewen Munro recently joined Oban High School pupils and staff at Murrayfield in Edinburgh as Scotland took in France in the 6 Nations rugby union championship.
What a splendid day was had by all with a superb group of young people. Sadly the only low note was the narrow defeat for Scotland in the final minutes of the match.
(Scotland 17 France 19...booo!)

Sunday Sofa with the H2O Team

So - what is Sunday Sofa?
Well, its a new H2O opportunity to find out a little more about invited guests and their walk with God. And how do you start off a new initiative such as this? Well, one way is to call on your own team and discover a little more about them and their faith journeys.
Guest interviewer Kirsteen (Wogan) Binnie was tasked with 'grilling' firstly Ewen, followed by Rachel and Joan with recently arrived walled garden team John and Catriona Petit concluding the evenings interviews.
Staring the evening with a wee cuppa and nibbles (Thanks to chef DM) the 'audience' were invited to come together in worship led by Angus Smith before the interviews began. A splendid time was had all round.....and now we've had a practice, it's on with the sofa chat next Sunday with Magnus MacFarlane-Barrows of Mary's Meals facing the questions.
Do keep an eye on 'Source' and the H2O website for who else will be on the Sunday Sofa.

OHS Students Explore Different Faith Perspectives

The Conference Gathering
At the end of February, a fine gathering of S6 students from Oban High School were joined by folks from all over Scotland representing a variety of faith and belief perspectives. Those perspectives included Christian, Humanist, Islamic, Hindu and Sikh as well as an inter-faith outlook. Throughout the very full day students attended six workshops for questions and chat with the event culminating in a time of reflection and review together.
Lyndsay gives a vote of thanks om behalf of the OHS students
The conference was co-organised by the H2O team, S6 student Lyndsay Foster and Mrs Sharp from the RMPS department at OHS. A great big thank you must go particularly to Lyndsay for all her hard work leading up to and during the event. A big thanks also goes to our all our workshop hosts and Frances Hume of the Scottish Interfaith Council.
